Hosting:Free Security Software:Less than 5% of current security threats are caused by traditional viruses, so most of the remaining malicious software infections are never detected by traditional antivirus programs. It is not unusual for me to have to run all of the following programs in sequence - but not always in the same order - to remove malware infections. All of these programs are free, but some are free for only a short trial period.
Recycle:PLEASE DO NOT throw your old electronic equipment in the trash. Everything from your electric toothbrush to your hard drive and LCD monitor is full of lead, cadmium, mercury, and other toxic metals. Locally, Staples will recycle computers, monitors, printers, UPSs, and other peripherals for a very modest charge. Computers usually are $10, and some things are free. Do Not Recycle Computers or Hard Drives Without Ensuring All of your Data is Destroyed! If you would like me to remove your hard drive, destroy your data, and recycle your equipment, I charge one half hour labor, plus Staples' recycling fee. Please feel free to contact me to schedule time. As for other recycling (coaxial cables, phone cords, wires, motherboards, memory, power supplies, power adapters, routers, switches, and all other household electrical gadgets), I keep a large box in my basement to toss these things into. When it is full, I tape it up and ship it to one of the following recycling centers. Recycling is free at Bluegrass, but E-Tech charges for LCD and CRT monitors. If we can drum up enought recycling in the Charleston area, Bluegrass will expand and eventually open a branch here, so they are my first choice. Please contact the recycler directly with other questions:
